2014 Food Journey - Week 1

Edamame.  Edamame (枝豆?) /ˌɛdəˈmɑːmeɪ/ or edamame bean is a preparation of immature soybeans in the pod, found in the cuisine of China, Japan and Hawaii. The pods are boiled or steamed and served with salt.

I've never tried edamame until yesterday, probably because it's green.

I asked for suggestions from my friends on facebook of foods I should try, and Kim Gunter Oliver suggested I try this exotic veggie.  (It's exotic to me.)

I found some edamame in the frozen food section and popped the box in the microwave and 3 minutes later...to my surprise, I really like it!

It's just three days before the new year begins, and I was thinking about how I want to be different this time next year.  I want to grow.  On my way to church this morning I was listening to XM Radio and a woman blogger was telling about her journey this year.  She decided that she would do something new every day in 2013. Wow, what a concept!

I began thinking about this, and I've decided to expand my slightly picky palate and try one new food every week this year.  That's 52 different kinds of food that I've never eaten before.

Up until now the only green food I've ever tried is broccoli, green beans, baby spinach, iceberg lettuce, and artichoke hearts.

My mother worked outside of the home my whole life, so my sister, Karen, and I cooked for ourselves a lot.  We cooked a lot of macaroni and cheese!

Feel free to suggest foods which you find delicious, and I'll give them a try!

I'm as picky with fruit as I am vegetables...55 years old, and I have the palate of a 5 year old!

Always Inspired by Pinterest!

I saw a picture of a cute little top on Pinterest, so I bought a pattern, found a weenie dog picture online, and voila!  (Is that how you spell voila??)

This is my first attempt at hand appliqueing something.  Went to youtube and found an instructional video.  I love youtube!!

Headband Organizer from Pinterest - My Version

I got this idea from Pinterest, and used fabric instead of paper to cover the Quaker Oats container.  Hot glued it to a glass candle holder, and added a little ric rac.  I also covered the lid inside and outside.  This is a very easy project.

Simply Incredible.

As I read the newest posts on Monica and Celeste's blog tonight, tears
wouldn't stop streaming down my face.  It really amazes me how these
two young women have grown up to be so smart and eloquent.  I am
so proud of them.

Someone waiting...

I know that no one follows me, and I'm not writing this for anyone but myself.

I've just experienced something I've never gone through before.  Not close enough that it hurt so much.  My daughter was about 6 weeks pregnant, and she lost her precious baby.  Through the years I've heard people say things like "It was just not meant to be," or "It was for the best."  I'll never say those words to someone going through this.

Someone is waiting for me in Heaven.  Maybe it's my first granddaughter...I'll find out some day.  She has a sweet great-grandmother there with her.  Through these tears I shed, I do have a wonderful peace in my heart that someday we'll meet each other.  I love you, sweet baby!
