Another New Food

These are the fruits I have eaten my whole life, and I love them:  apples, bananas, and watermelon.  That's it.  I have to say that I have not even tried most other types of fruit.  I don't know why...it's pretty ridiculous.

Well, Wednesday I tried pineapple.  My 3-year old grandson LOVES fruit so I bought him a little device that cuts fruit into shapes.  I think Owen probably likes more healthy food than I do.

Back to the pineapple...it tasted good.  I'll eat more of it and I won't avoid dishes that have pineapple in them.  At this point, I can't see myself sitting down to a big bowl of pineapple and devouring it like I do with watermelon.

Food Journey - Week 2

I'm 55 years old and I've never eaten a nacho cheese Dorito.  I've just never thought I'd like them, so tonight I tried my first Dorito.  I also tried yogurt.

The Dorito was fine.  The yogurt wasn't as gross as I thought it would be.  I ate a few bites of it, even though it had strawberries in it.

2014 Food Journey - Week 1

Edamame.  Edamame (枝豆?) /ˌɛdəˈmɑːm/ or edamame bean is a preparation of immature soybeans in the pod, found in the cuisine of China, Japan and Hawaii. The pods are boiled or steamed and served with salt.

I've never tried edamame until yesterday, probably because it's green.

I asked for suggestions from my friends on facebook of foods I should try, and Kim Gunter Oliver suggested I try this exotic veggie.  (It's exotic to me.)

I found some edamame in the frozen food section and popped the box in the microwave and 3 minutes later...to my surprise, I really like it!

It's just three days before the new year begins, and I was thinking about how I want to be different this time next year.  I want to grow.  On my way to church this morning I was listening to XM Radio and a woman blogger was telling about her journey this year.  She decided that she would do something new every day in 2013. Wow, what a concept!

I began thinking about this, and I've decided to expand my slightly picky palate and try one new food every week this year.  That's 52 different kinds of food that I've never eaten before.

Up until now the only green food I've ever tried is broccoli, green beans, baby spinach, iceberg lettuce, and artichoke hearts.

My mother worked outside of the home my whole life, so my sister, Karen, and I cooked for ourselves a lot.  We cooked a lot of macaroni and cheese!

Feel free to suggest foods which you find delicious, and I'll give them a try!

I'm as picky with fruit as I am vegetables...55 years old, and I have the palate of a 5 year old!

Always Inspired by Pinterest!

I saw a picture of a cute little top on Pinterest, so I bought a pattern, found a weenie dog picture online, and voila!  (Is that how you spell voila??)

This is my first attempt at hand appliqueing something.  Went to youtube and found an instructional video.  I love youtube!!

Headband Organizer from Pinterest - My Version

I got this idea from Pinterest, and used fabric instead of paper to cover the Quaker Oats container.  Hot glued it to a glass candle holder, and added a little ric rac.  I also covered the lid inside and outside.  This is a very easy project.
